Lions Adopt a Roadside project begins in CranbourneThe club has finalised arrangements with Keep Victoria Beautiful and VicRoads to implement the Adopt a Roadside program in Cranbourne. The nominated section of road that the club has adopted is Cranbourne - Narre Warren road between Thompson road and Sladen street. Members of the club will be out on this section of road at least once per month, collecting roadside litter and reporting any major works that need to be attended to by council or VicRoads. Watch out for us and give us a toot if you are passing by.
Cranbourne Senior Citizens Christmas Party a Huge HitThe club once again hosted the annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party in December with lunch, refreshments and entertainment served to approximately 100 senior citizens from the community. The Lions Club was well supported by the ladies from the CWA who prepared all of the food for the day. The Lions Club Concert Band provided terrific entertainment together with the Cranbourne Chorale who led all attendees in singing a range of Christmas Carols in a very enthusiastic manner. Several local vegetable growers and producers led by our own Frank Lamantina provided a huge range of vegetables which were raffled on the day and flowers for all the ladies that attended this very special day. Thanks to all who helped and especially all who attended again this year. Planning will start soon for the 2016 event.
Measles Eradication an International Goal. Cranbourne Lions will do our bit to help. The GAVI Alliance and Lions Clubs International announced a unique partnership at the Hamburg Convention that will help to protect tens of millions of children in the world’s poorest countries against measles, a highly infectious disease that kills an estimated 430 people every day, mostly in developing countries. Under the partnership, Lions Clubs International will deploy its network of 1.35 million volunteers to raise US$30 million and to improve access to vaccines through the GAVI Alliance, a public-private partnership whose mission is to save children’s lives and protect people’s health by increasing access to immunization in the world’s poorest countries.
Measles kills about 160,000 people annually, mostly children under age five. GAVI provides the measles vaccine in a single shot with the vaccine against rubella (German measles).

Supporting our local VFL teamMembers of the Cranbourne Lions Club are providing gate services for our local VFL team the mighty Casey Scorpions who are associated with the Melbourne Football Club. This year we are manning the gates at the Casey Fields VFL ground for the Scorpions home games and will also be providing a BBQ at the Scorpions v Collingwood match on June 6th. We thank the Scorpions for the opportunity to be involved.

ANNUAL TOY RUNEach year the Cranbourne Lions Club supports the annual Toy Run by providing a hearty cooked breakfast to the hundreds of motor cycle riders and others who depart from Cranbourne. The participants in the toy run collect and pass on toys to the Salvation Army for distribution to less privileged children in our communities.

Anzac Day Dawn Service at Cranbourne RSLWhat a magnificent and moving ceremony and tribute to our past and present armed services members. An estimated crowd of 1500 local people gathered at the Cranbourne RSL to participate in the 100 year anniversary Dawn Service. The cool and damp weather was never going to spoil this occasion and the Lions Club of Cranbourne was there again this year to cook a breakfast for those who braved the pre-dawn cold. It was humbling for this club to be allowed to support the event in a substantial way and to participate in proceedings by laying a floral tribute to those fallen service men and women. Thank you to all in the community who attended and especially to the RSL for organising such a memorable event.

RIDE FOR SIGHT 2018So sad. The rest of the ride has been called off due to the weather conditions being unsafe for it to continue. We are all disappointed but we can't do anything about the weather.
Now to Inverloch by vehicle for lunch and presentations with a little bit of light entertainment.
It's been a fabulous adventure and already our fundraising has hit a new high, with more funds yet to be received.
Congrats to committee, the cyclists, volunteers and all the Lions Clubs involved along the way for everything running to plan, on time and with safety. Again thanks to Lions for feeding us and organising accommodation and other details.
